Hail Damage Repair: Step-by-Step

Initial Inspection and Damage Assessment:
A qualified technician thoroughly inspects the vehicle to identify all hail-related damage. They note the location, size, and depth of each dent, as well as any paint damage. This assessment helps determine the most appropriate repair method (PDR, traditional repair, or a combination)
Insurance Claim (If Applicable):
If the vehicle is insured for hail damage, a claim is filed and the insurance company will typically send an adjuster to inspect the vehicle and assess the damage.
Repair Method Selection:
Based on the damage assessment, the technician determines whether Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) or traditional repair methods are more suitable. PDR is often preferred for minor to moderate hail damage where the paint is intact. Traditional repair may be necessary for more severe damage, including deep dents or paint damage.
Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) Process:
If PDR is chosen, the technician gains access to the back of the damaged panels, sometimes requiring the removal of trim pieces or interior panels. Specialized tools are used to gently massage and push the dents out from behind, restoring the panel to its original shape. The technician carefully manipulates the metal, working the dent out gradually to avoid damaging the paint.
For more severe damage requiring traditional repair, the affected areas are sanded down to remove the damaged paint and any sharp edges. If necessary, body filler is applied to fill in deeper dents or reshape the panel. Once the filler is dry, the area is sanded smooth and primed to prepare for painting. The repaired area is then painted to match the original color of the vehicle.

Final Inspection and Quality Check:
After the repairs are completed, the technician performs a final inspection to ensure all dents have been removed and the paintwork is seamless.
Vehicle Pickup and Post-Repair Care:
The vehicle is returned to the owner after the repairs are completed and inspected. The owner may need to take some precautions after the repair, such as avoiding washing the car for a certain period if the paint was recently repaired.
